I found a really awesome local Chihuahua breeder who breeds only Miniature, Standard and Teacup Chihuahuas. There is now a litter of Chis they are taking orders for as they will be born in around a weeks time. I am very excited and plan to buy a puppy from them once the puppies are 8 weeks old. The Standard pups are $1500, Minis are $2100 and Teacups are $2749. I would need to give a $500 non-refundable deposit to hold a standard, $800 non-refundable deposit to hold a Mini and $1300 non-refundable deposit to hold a teacup. Do those prices sound about right? The standards are AKC registered and the smaller ones are APR registered. How much would you/did you pay for a Chihuahua of those sizes? Am I getting ripped off or should I give them the deposit now? What is a reasonable price to pay for a Mini Chihuahua? Is $2100 too much or is that about right?Sounds like you found a puppy mill.
APR is a scam registry for dogs who don't have acceptable paperwork for a reputable registry.
This combined with "teacup" is a sure sign of puppies bred purely as a cash crop with no regard for quality or condition.
BTW there is no such thing as a standard or mini Chihuahua either.
Go to the AKC site & follow the links to the Chihuahua club which will be able to put you in touch with breeders in your region.
A well bred puppy from quality, health tested & shown parents should cost less than those inflated prices & you should be able to see the dogs & their relatives.|||that is wayy too much. i bought a lab for 300 bucks there is no way the mini chiuaua costs that much..

What is a reasonable price to pay for a Mini Chihuahua? Is $2100 too much or is that about right?dunno.sounds a bit much but i am not really a dog expert|||Backyard breeders sell such dogs at higher prices that reach up to $3000. Therefore, you must be very careful when choosing a trustworthy breeder. Buy only from reputable and conscientious breeders who have show records, health certificates and other documents entitling them to breed the dog on hand. What is a reasonable price to pay for a Mini Chihuahua? Is $2100 too much or is that about right?okay, first of all you are always being ripped off when buying anything but a standard size chi. My reasoning for this statement is the inherent health problems associated with miniature toy breeds. Breeding toy dogs to be smaller than their standard is irresponsible breeding and it is foolish to pay for or promote this type of breeding. Teacup and miniature chihuahua is not a breed, it is a breeding method and a very poor one at that, these dogs are breed runt to runt, saying that please understand that nay breeder who advertises this type or breeding is not a good breeder. If you are not concerned about the practices that is fine, but the initial cost of a very small stature dog may be the least of your problems, consider what the end product of breeding unhealthy dog to unhealthy dog can be. Additionally there is no way for a breeder to differentiate between what chihuahua will be "mini" and "teacup" at birth so that is undoubtably rip off.|||There is no such thing as a miniature or teacup. These are runts sold to gullible people for ridiculous amounts of money by unscrupulous backyard breeders like the one you are describing. These poor creatures will have all kinds of health problems and really you shouldn't even take one for free from the local shelter, because it could end up costing you a fortune in vet's fees. You have been warned.|||I would not want one of them. I wuld rather have a little stuffed teddy. Don't have to feed it or clean up after it.That seems like a heck of a lot for a dog but then I bet they do sell them for that amount.
A larger dog makes much more sense to me.|||Sory, but there is know such thing as a tea cup chiwahua. They are just small puppies. Some tea cups and minis can grow to 18 pounds! If you still want one, look at www.petfinder.com.
