If your laptop doesn't have this, you can get either a PC-Card adapter (or PC ExpressCsrd, if a newer model) to add FireWire capability. The other option, since you mentioned making CDs (more correctly DVDs) from your videotapes, is a standalone DVD recorder that has a DV input (I use a JVC model with an internal hard drive as well as the DVD burner) 鈥?most TiVO DVR's and other DVR's with DVD-capability have a DV-port.
