I purchased a dell inspiron mini and it sure seems a lot slower than I would have expected for a new machine.
Any input as to some of the programs I can delete to speed up the performance a tad. What programs should I remove from dell inspiron mini to speed performance? If you are running Norton or Mcaffee, get rid of it and use a good antivirus like Avira, avast, avg, panda, etc. These have free versions.
Download ccleaner and defraggler, both free, google it. Ccleaner cleans pc's of useless files, defraggler defrags hard drive, and well. Make sure you're doing nothing and running no other programs when using defraggler.
Do a search for msconfig.exe, and run it. In the startup tab, disable everything but the antivirus and w/e else you know for a fact must run. Then go to Services tab, check the box labeled "hide all microsoft services", and disable everything but the antivirus and things you know need to run, or want to run. If you have a java service, or a rosetta stone service there, I recommend leaving that alone. Also, for military CAC cards and other card reading software, let those run as well.
For internet, make sure cookies are deleted on browser exit, and delete the flash cookies (local shared objects) on exit as well. Firefox has "better privacy" as an addon for this, other browsers you will likely need to find the location via google. They're also called "LSOs". If you need a faster browser, google chrome works very fast, though gives you little freedom. Firefox is very safe and customizable but slower. Internet explorer is terrible. Safari is based on same engine as google chrome, but slightly slower. I used it on mac and it grew slow after 4 months. Up to you. Chrome was developed from an open source browser (can't remember), so google it's origins and you may like the original more.
And of course, the ultimate solution to a faster computer is to install Linux, but that takes some getting used to, both for installing and configuring. If you're interested but afraid you'll mess up your computer, download a live distribution from puppy linux or ubuntu linux and test it. Puppy is great for old computers, ubuntu for newer. A live distro is an ISO that you burn to a cd or dvd, and run from the disk without install. It will run a little bit slower, but let you test everything. A live cd will not do anything to your hard drive without your permission. What programs should I remove from dell inspiron mini to speed performance?First Deleting programs is one thing you can do ...Delete the ones you don't really use( Be careful, don't delete any crucial one a.k.a the ones that already came with the laptop)
There other things you can do :
1. Do a disk cleanup ( it should be done regularly) --> Start > In search type Disk Cleanup and open it.
2. Do a disk defragmentation > Start > In search typre Disk defragmentation
3. Delete your cookies and history --> Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > General tab > Delete
4. There might be a malaware in your computer ...I recommend "malawarebytes" ( extremely efficient
and effective)

Hope this helps:)
