I have a handycam, which, bizarrely enough, does not have any ports to connect to a computer. It records onto mini dvd's, which cannot be read by the MBP. What's the simplest, cheapest way to solve this problem?

Thanks! What's the best way to get video from a mini dvdrw onto a mac book pro?Dear Raam,As we know, the MacBook Pro is a line of Macintosh portable computers ,don't have driver.so you have to use external driver to rip videos from the mini DVD-RW onto your Mac.

Get an external, drawer loading, optical drive - I like those from LaCie.

This is not a Mac-specific issue.

Download and install HandBrake
http://handbrake.fr/

Put the FINALIZED disc in the external drawer loading optical drive.
Launch HandBrake.
Rip the video from the DVD to a format that is useful... like MOV, DV or MP4. When the ripping is complete, quit HandBrake and use the converted files.

Warning: Video captured by consumer grade, standard definition video, DVD based, camcorders is VERY compressed - and was not meant to be edited. Video quality will be poor.

Another option is to use an Elgato video capture device... there are a few others. Basically, plug the camcorder's AV cable into the video capture device... being coverted from analog video and coming over USB, this will not be high quality video either...|||you can use the best mac dvd ripper to copy dvd to computer and rip dvd on Mac OS. http://www.macdvdconverter.com/mac-dvd-r鈥?/a>
