i have a female mini dachshund and a male full size dachshund. I was planning to breed them, but i found it may be unsafe for the female because the pups may be too big for her to deliver. is that true? or is it okay to breed them?Is it safe for a regular dachshund to breed with a mini dachshund?no it is not ok. She may have difficulty delivering larger puppies.
Get your dogs spayed and neuterd. Breeding is risky buisiness, its not about sticking male and female together and waiting for puppies to sell. Its costly and comes with many dangerous risks. There are complications that can very easily KILL your female.
Leave breeding to those who know what they are doing.|||No..it is not safe..It will kill them. They will both die if you dont take them and get them fixed as soon as possible. Stinkin BYBs in training. Is it safe for a regular dachshund to breed with a mini dachshund?I suggest, since you have to ask this, NO. Please get your dogs fixed, and do years of researching before you breed. There are TOO many unwanted puppies in the world as is.|||Unless you're a professional breeder, it isn't okay to breed dogs period. Definitely not in this case. A small breed (toy or mini) should never carry the litter of a larger dog.Is it safe for a regular dachshund to breed with a mini dachshund? Its not ok for you to be breeding period since its obvious you don't know jack about what you are doing and have pet quality animals who have NOTHING to offer the breed. No its not ok to breed your 11lb or under ***** to male possibly twice her damn size. Get your animals fixed.|||No, it's not safe or wise to breed them.|||nope does the mini ring any bells she can die because of the exerting pressure she has to use when she gives birth i don't recommend that you do she can die because her pup might be to big or she might survive but she would need an emergency c-section|||I wouldn't breed a larger male with a smaller female breed.
Is it possible that it'll turn out okay? Sure.
Is there a chance that the mom and puppies and mother will die because the pups can't naturally be delivered? Definitely.
Is it worth the risk? Not to me, but you may not care about anything but yourself and your desire to make puppies - so it's your call.|||No its not ok to breed them. The female cannot carry larger size puppies. And you should only breed when:
1. They are AKC registered (and bred to the SAME size dogs).
2. They are at least 2 yrs old and been tested for genetic problems.
3. They both have their championship titles
4. You have written permission to breed them from the breeders.
If the above is not or can't be done, then spay/neuter them both.|||Only if you want your female to end up with a c-section, and possibly die leaving you with a litter to hand raise, and about 2000.00 in vet bills.
Not to mention bringing pups into the world that are "tweenies" and not up to standard for both mini or standard. Why risk it?|||Sweetie if you do that your little dachshund will not live through it. Your male is way too big and the pups will be too big for the mother.
Now get both of those dachshunds spayed and neutered. ASAP. Neither of these dogs are show dogs why would you want to have puppies anyway, it's more work than anyone wants it will cost more than any amount you might make, Unless your a professional leave the breeding to the pros.
Now if you want to just have puppies or watch babies being born with out having the responsibility of finding them homes then go to your animal shelters and vet clinics, ask to be put on a list as a foster parent for a pregnant mother. They will love you because an animal shelter is not a good place for newborns and a lot of work for the shelter. Any offer to take in a foster momma and have puppies with the shelter supporting the mama with vet bills and placement of the puppies.
Bet you'll think twice before you take on your second litter.
Good Luck|||I would suggest against breeding your dogs unless you are a professional breeder. I am almost certain that you won;t be able to keep all of the puppies. Anyway, it is safe. I've seen a Beagle breeding with a lab and there is a bigger size difference there.|||no it would be different if the male was mini and she was standards...find a mini to breed her with...you need the male smaller than the female...just find a small male and breed her...good luck|||Is it safe for a Dachshund to breed with a Doberman? Because my father had just such a dog that had been born from a Daschshund-Doberman mating. So the answer is, I think it will be fine, but ask a vet to be sure.|||no its not true, they would work out ok|||They're dogs, aren't they? I've seen St. Bernard's mate with Chihuauas; hilarious!|||Um, you can breed a pug with a rottweiler, so i bet it would be completely fine :)
